8000 Shimano Stradic FI, 9' Okuma Longitude surf rod, 65 lb Berkley Fireline Tracer to 80 Ande mono leader. 7.5 " Orca lure, and a lot of luck...

Now bruce can see the true size of the fish compared to the pic on fb. Lol.
My 30# guess was way off.

Awesome catch, Bruce! Did the Stradic hold up okay, or is it all loose and sloppy now?

Keale - Ahukini... not much more to say aside from what I've already said about the catch. Truth be told though I was actually excited to fish further down the coast, but after about 30 or more casts I felt it must have been too calm. Which is why I went there to begin with... I wanted some place where I could get close enough to the ocean to not have to worry about my lure getting snagged on the rocks in front of me. I headed back and made 4 or 5 more casts and it hit it on the last of those casts.

Kumala - yeah. I'm a big guy so I make everything look small. I gotta lose some weight...

Kyle - The Stradic did it's job like a Champ. I'm so impressed by that reel (is it weird to be proud of a reel?). Years ago when I was looking into whipping for uluas and picking everybody's brain, I asked Pat Victorino what I should get if I don't want to spend a lot of money on Stella. The 8000 Stradic FI is what he recommended. So I bought it. And it's just an awesome reel... I don't think I even had the drag maxed out. I pulled out the drag stack, cleaned off the old grease and regreased with corrosion block grease. I'm confident that she's ready for warfare again.
