Conventional surf bait throwing rod reel

Post by peteguam » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:04 pm

Hafa Adai!

Just want to confirm for baitcasting i could get this rod:EMSF1142HFB Daiwa Emcast Casting 11' and pair it to
a Daiwa Sealine SL-X50SHA. I don't have easy access to a Nitro rod, was wondering if other folks have rigged the emcast
rod for long casting. many thanks! pete

I have that same rod. I can't give you a very good idea of its full casting potential, because
I use it with a Jigmaster, and that reel is my nemesis. I can cast larger reels okay,
but birdsnest the Jig quite a bit. I tamed it down with some rare earth magnets,
and can make 80-100 yd. practice casts with a 5-6 oz lead tied direct to 30-40# mainline.
Add a leader and bait though, and I'm back to square one. This is also my first
foray into fooling around with casting some light bait. I usually slide.

The 11' feels a bit short to me. If distance is a priority, I'd go with the 12' version.

I think it's a pretty nice rod for the $. The "X-Tube" covering gets gouged fairly easily though.
I put a metal buttcap on mine.

thanks pete,

these conventional rods, the guides are "UP"? like the small baitcasting rods. i have an abu garcia open face 6000 on a 7' it's a "one hander" to cast with the thumb on the spool, is it the same just larger scale and two arm control? i always birds nest it, once i had a emperor on it and had to retrieve with my hands

Yes, the guides are are meant to face up on the
conventionals, same as a small baitcasting rod
you'd use in freshwater.

I looked up that model number you put ip, and that's actually
for the emBLEM. I've got the emCAST. Either way, I'd go with
the 12 footer. I only went 11' because I my intention was
to get a lighter rod for eels, O'io, etc.
