O ok makes sense. When baitcasting i rarely fish on rocks so i usually drag my lead on the ground cause im usually on a sandy beach so never encountered the helicopter u was explaining. Now ill try practicing with just one swing. thanks for the info.

Ah, off the ground cast...yeah, no need worry in that case.

This affects the swing casters only. :)

I too am new to conventional and most places i go i gotta try swing cast. My question is when do you start with the foward motion when casting? Is it when the lead is just about at the peak of the swing? Jus asking cause i know timing is important and would like any advice so i can get my bait out further.

I am primarily an off-the-ground caster...
When I do swing, I swing straight back.
I imagine the swing when my rod is flat horizontal and the line goes straight back too.
Visualize the rod and line all lying flat on a table...
Then I swing.
From this point on, the cast is all going to be the same whether it be a swing or off-the-ground cast.

f8ldzz, when casting OTG is your line straight back at 12 oclock or at an angle facing about 1-2 oclock. If anybody else wants to add to this, would be very helpful. I usually have my line straight back on da ground.

I don't otg cast, but I did as a beginner. I used to put straight behind me. And I know of others who put the lead straight behind them or alittle to wateva side dey swinging. Also depends how u swing da rod. Overhead, angle, wateva ur swinging motion.
Better to be blunt and have people judge me,
than to lie and have god judge me.
