1st time fishing in Hawaii please help

Post by DJParzival » Wed Apr 11, 2018 7:28 am

New to the forum and this is my first post.

Ill be in Oahu at the end of June and I want to try fishing on the shore. I will be staying at Aulani resort and also a week on the North Shore. Can anyone please suggest spots that would be safe for me to fish? Also what type of rig should I be using? I was thinking a spinning setup with a drop shot or carolina rig and plastic swimbaits. Would cut bait or squid be better? Thanks in advance

I would try fishing across Kahe Power Plant at the beginning of Nanakuli. I have a whipping pole, Nitro 9', and a Daiwa Exceler 3500 with 12# line. Egg lead and small AH hooks. Leader strength adjusted to size of fish. Plastic grubs and He'e are good bait. Have fun and keep watching the water.
