Beach Park Access at Kapolei Neighborhood Board

Post by Brian F. » Tue Apr 23, 2013 4:25 pm

Fishermen are asking others concerned about West side beach park closures and night time access to please come out and discuss the issue at the

Makakilo / Kapolei / Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board No. 34

Wednesday, APRIL 24, 2013
KAPOLEI HIGH SCHOOL CAFETORIUM
91-5007 KAPOLEI PARKWAY

7:00 P.M. – 9:45 P.M.

The more people that show up, the more of an impact it will make.
Some updates that will be discussed with the board:

Honolulu City Council Bill 8 is at the Mayor's office for his signature. This will allow people to "transit" through closed City parks to access the shoreline. Presently, you can be cited even if just walking through to the shoreline.

The Governor's office is trying to help fishermen gain access to beach parks and other shoreline areas that are "closed" or or otherwise off limits during the evening hours. Fishermen are being cited for being in parks "illegally", even sometimes when standing on the State owned shoreline.

The hardest part of this..to allow recreational shoreline fisherman...? How do you tell the difference from people looking like a fisherman? from those just to go to the beach...at nights..? ..anyone can carry fishing poles, and coolers...?

One way..is to register people...and only allow register people...and anyone else who break the rules...Ban! Not sure who should be the ones to register the fisherman...and monitor the people..? this could lead to other problems..

Mauna Kea beach hotel, ..We had to get management permission who in turn let the on-site secuity guards know...(register our names of everyone coming)...and when we were leaving... this work very well...in those days...of long ago..

Aloha,
