New Distance Record Set

Post by Don B » Tue Jun 19, 2012 3:47 pm

If you can't cast 300 yards, stay home.

Not really. But, the top five casters at Sussex this past weekend all cast over 300 yards.

From the message board:
"Lee Adams and Alan Varley both managed to get there first recorded casts over the much desired 300 yard line for the first time. Danny Moeskops and Steve Lewis also had 300 yard plus casts but it was Matt Russells casts that shocked everyone the most. ON the first round he recorded is believed to be the biggest distance ever recorded in competition of a MASSIVE 291m which translates to approx 318 yards. "

In feet the distance was 955 feet.

Excuse my laziness, but what's the main line test for these distances?

I'm thinking of throwing some 17lb on a sealine 30 and see where 5 oz goes on a slayer 8)

I checked and it seems he was casting 125 grams. However, he cast 150 grams (about 5 ounces) almost as far.

Here's the info you are looking for. See 6A & 6B

Hi oio,

The reel sizes are about the same size as a Penn 525 (Squal 15). Typically used are modified ABU 6500 and 6600 reels. The new reels that have recently come into favor are Akios in sizes Sportcast 555 CTM, Sportcast 656 CTM and the 666 3M Tourno.

Line sizes and shock leaders are associated with the size weight being cast.
Sizes are .25mm, .28mm, .31mm, .35mm. Or about 8, 10, 12, 15 pound line. The diameter (not the rating) is important.

Rods are typically 13' to 14' long.

Jay Lee is a top world caster. Some video of him casting along with shots of the reels follow.
