Kailua-Kona pier..early morning hours..

Postby kona-ulua-style » Wed Nov 12, 2014 4:14 pm

Kailua-Kona pier always produce lots of action... See Hawaii Fishing News - Bruce wth his big UKU..

He fishes there on Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fridays, from 4:00 am to 7:00 am, just about every week too.. This morning he landed a 25lb white ulua, on live Halalu, ( Halulus are becoming Akule's size)...

You want to catch fish? Kailua-Kona pier is the place, Uku, Aha, papio, ulua, rainbow runner, Tako, menpachi, Akule, Halalu, palani , Yes some days...nothing. But most times he always catches something..

He does practice releasing, shares his catches with others and he likes to eat fish too...

Usually there is 1-3 people after 4:00 am and about 6 people at about 6:00 am... everyone is welcome to fish, and if you need some help? Bruce is always willing show you how he fishes... Mainly whipping and dunking...

Not many place like the Kailua-Kona pier... early lighted mornings, some times you will see hundreds of blue glow of the omilu...on the bottom swimming around..

Aloha, Kailua-Pier,is like what fishing was along time ago, only it is happen everyday ..Now!

Rather then fish at South point? Stay the King kam hotel, fish at pier ,right next door... or Kona Seaside hotel..

Darn it, I was just staying at the King Kamehameha a week ago and was seriously contemplating bringing my travel whipping pole. Stayed in Kona for a week.....and didn't bring by fishing gear.

Oh well... there is always next time....

We like to fish for the menpachi's at night , usually get there about 7:00 pm...and fish till about 10ish... (prefer dark nights)..
You will need to cast far, a 10 foot menpachi rod or longer is better, 6-8 lb test line and about 1 oz or heavier

glow stick, glow scroungers or flies...# 7, 8, or 9 Ah hooks.

After 9:00 pm...fish by the scale...shallower waters, but the menpachis like hanging around there too...( secret spot-no telling,OK!..lol)
--------------------------
Most people uses the 1 1/2 glow sticks, a guy from Hilo.. mention to use the 2 inch glow sticks......way brighter...
