Osaka flats... (Kahuku ranch)... A very nice place to fish... Small game action was very good for us... Flat place to camp...

We actually had both casting clubs ,Hilo and Kona Coast casting club outing together,... can throw 'choke" poles...
Several Uluas and papios were landed at that outing...
Bowl is the best spot... a small point when you see it...

Aloha,

Easy place to fish.... May not need the slide gaff..if you have a long pole gaff...

If you fish Hosakas, bring a cel phone with a strong signal, or stand on the rocky outcrop in front of the outhouse to make phone calls.

If you fish JRs, bring gloves and reel your empty hooks in as fast as you can. :D

Either place is great. Hosaka's is better for camping because of its large, flat area and is naturally shielded from a lot if the wind. JR's historically produces more and larger fish.

How do you get access down there? Don't you have to pay, how much? heard its through Yamanaka Enterprise? They are the caretakers or something?

Yamanaka no longer manages the property. A company named NNC Management manages the property now but I don't think their number is listed anywhere. Last I knew it's $300 ($50 is key deposit) for 2 nights. Like most private ranches you'll probably need to be referred to the property managers to gain access.

I do know that the rules are pretty stringent for the sake of conservation of certain species - no menpachi fishing May and June, no taking of opihi, no taking of lobster, etc. and the management company sends guys down to check out the camps - and don't expect to be allowed back if the campsite is left a mess or if rules are broken. Pretty standard common sense stuff.
