DA Ulua (Giant Trevally Caranx ignobilis) |

Description: To qualify
as an ulua, a Ulua must be at least 10lbs. Not 9.9 or 9.99lbs!
10lbs!! The Ulua has many names. Some of the common names you might
here are: Jacks, trevally, Giant Trevally, Butaguchi, Kagami, and Omilu.
They usually don't grow more than 100lbs but some have been recorded as big as
190lbs. Most fishermen in Hawaii catch the Ulua in rocky
deep water. Quite a few Ulua's come up in shallower sandy shorelines as
well. In Hawai'i, the Ulua is one of the most prized fish to catch from
shore because of their unique ability to break the backs of avid fishermen (good
fighters). Personally, I don't like to eat Ulua but most people do!
Sashimi (raw) is my favorite if I have to eat it!
